Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

489 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to the repairs which need to be carried out at Ferns national school, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11921/98]

I take it the Deputy's question refers to an application by Ferns national school, County Waterford, for grant assistance towards the costs of a range of improvement works. An architect from my Department visited the school recently to carry out an initial examination of the proposed works and his report has been furnished to my Department's building unit.

Also, following receipt of the school's application my department's planning section initiated an examination of the long-term school accommodation requirements in the Ferns area. This examination is now completed and a report on this has also been referred to the building unit. The building unit is currently examining the grant application in the light of these reports.
