Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Redundancy and Insolvency Payments.

David Stanton

Question:

117 Mr. Stanton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the involvement, if any, of her Department with regard to redundancy and insolvency payments since June 1997; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11898/98]

Concerning redundancy payments, my Department has made payments in the form of rebates to employers, and where an employer defaults, in the form of statutory redundancy lump sum payments to employees, on a continuous basis, since the coming into force of the Redundancy Payments Act, 1967.

In relation to insolvency payments, my Department has paid certain wage-related debts to employees whose employment was discontinued due to the employer's insolvency, on a continuous basis, since the coming into force of the Protection of Employees (Employers' Insolvency) Act, 1984.
