Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Fisheries Board Staff.

Beverley Flynn

Question:

159 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when the positions of temporary fisheries officers with the Western Fisheries Board, which were created in 1995, will be made permanent. [11666/98]

I take it that the Deputy's question refers to the contract staff employed specifically on the western lakes project which is funded under the tourism angling measure and has been under way since 1995.

I announced on 22 April a further round of investment approvals under the Tourism Angling Measure for tourism angling projects throughout the country totalling £2 million. This includes the final phase of the western lakes project which will receive a further £800,000, bringing to £2 million the total EU and State investment in this important project alone. Contract staff will continue to be employed as needed on the project.
