Vol. 491 No. 5

Written Answers. - Public Service Pensions.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

90 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government further to Parliamentary Question No. 520 of 21 April 1998 regarding pension increases for public servants, his views on the points raised by a person (details supplied) in response to the reply; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12574/98]

The long service increment which was part of the PCW restructuring agreement for the clerical officer grade was personal to those persons who were serving as clerical officers on 1 June 1996 or who were appointed as clerical officers between 1 June 1996 and 30 June 1997, by way of competition. The long service increment did not, therefore, become part of the pay scale of the clerical officer grade generally and applies for pension purposes only to persons who met the service criteria which I have outlined above.
