Vol. 491 No. 5

Written Answers. - Library Staff.

John McGuinness

Question:

91 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will make a statement on the position of part-time workers in the public service in view of the Labour Court ruling which states that part-time librarians should receive incremental pay increases on the same basis as full-time staff following a test case taken by IMPACT for part-time librarians in County Mayo. [12575/98]

The Labour Court recommendation related to permanent part-time branch librarians employed by Mayo County Council. I have sanctioned the application of this recommendation by all local authorities to their permanent part-time branch librarians. The Labour Court recommendation was specific to permanent part-time branch librarians and has no direct implications for other part-time workers in the public service.
