Vol. 491 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

99 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a one parent family allowance will be restored to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12580/98]

The person concerned was in receipt of one parent family allowance, formerly lone parent's allowance, up to 29 January 1998. Following an investigation by a local officer of the Department payment of one parent family allowance was terminated on the grounds that she and another person are cohabiting as man as wife. She appealed this decision to the independent social welfare appeals office. She attended an oral appeal hearing on 14 May 1998 when she undertook to submit further documentation for consideration by the appeals officer. The appeals officer will consider the appeal further on receipt of the documentation requested.
