268 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science whether the Government provides a scholarship for the study of economics in the College of Europe in Bruges; if so, the criteria under which this scholarship is awarded; and whether there are any other scholarship supports for these studies. The Department of Education and Science funds three scholarships to enable students to study at the College of Europe. The faculties of the college are located in Brugge, Belgium and Natolin, Poland. Candidates may apply to one of these scholarships to study one of the following options at the College of Brugge; law, politics and administration, economics or human resources.
In order to be considered for selection, applicants must satisfy the following criteria; intending candidates for Brugge must have, or expect to obtain, a primary degree in law, political science, European studies, economics or subjects related to the development of human resources and have an excellent working knowledge of French. Eligibility for Natolin is as for Brugge except that candidates with a primary degree in history are also eligible. The European Movement Ireland administers the selection process for these scholarships.
Under the auspices of the cultural agreement concluded between Ireland and the Kingdom of Belgium, the Belgium Ministry of Education offers a one year scholarship for post graduate studies in Flanders. Irish students can avail of this offer to study at the College of Europe, Brugge.
