Vol. 492 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Michael Ring

Question:

224 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will receive a referral appointment to an orthopaedic surgeon. [14313/98]

The provision of medical treatment to eligible persons in County Mayo in this instance is the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board. I have asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.

Jack Wall

Question:

225 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of patients on waiting lists for assessment or respite care at a hospital (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14314/98]

I am advised by the Eastern Health Board that there are currently eight patients awaiting assessment in Kildare, four of whom are currently in Naas Hospital and will be assessed before discharge, and a further four patients have been listed for assessment since 5 June 1998. The board reports that if cases are deemed urgent, arrangements can be made to have the patient assessed in the day hospital in Naas Hospital. There are currently 23 patients availing of respite care on a rotation basis and there is no waiting list for this service.
