Vol. 492 No. 4

Written Answers. - Child Offenders.

Ivor Callely

Question:

228 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health and Children the initiatives, if any, he has considered to address the issues associated with persistent child offenders; if he will list the matters already identified; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14358/98]

A range of issues are associated with a pattern of persistent offending by children and measures to deal with these are set out in the Children Bill, 1996, which is due to go to committee shortly. In addition, I am currently examining the most appropriate way of providing a multi-agency response to juvenile offending and of expanding preventative measures in this area.
