Vol. 492 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Developments.

Austin Currie

Question:

232 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will confirm the agreement of his predecessor that his Department will match the additional funding which the Eastern Health Board will receive from the sale of surplus land at James Connolly Memorial Hospital on a pound for pound basis; the position now that this land has been sold; the timescale for the development of the hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14362/98]

This development is to be funded jointly by the Eastern Health Board and my Department on the basis of a £1 for £1 arrangement. The Departnment's contribution will be a fixed amount equal to the agreed sale figure, that is, the amount due to the Eastern Health Board. With regard to the timescale for the development of the hospital, it will be a matter for my Department and the Eastern Health Board to agree on a schedule for the phasing of the development within the development control plan, taking account of the resources available, the value of the land sale and the service priorities.
