Vol. 492 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Services Inspectorate.

Jack Wall

Question:

41 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children his intentions regarding the establishment of a social services inspectorate; the timescale involved; and the range of responsibilities for this inspectorate. [14249/98]

The establishment of a social services inspectorate is a priority for my Department. Arrangements are in train to advertise the post of chief inspector next month. Following the appointment of the successful candidate, arrangements will be made for the recruitment of further staff.

As previously announced the inspectorate will concentrate for an initial three year period on child care services.
