Vol. 492 No. 4

Written Answers. - Coastal Protection.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

86 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the amount of coastal protection funds made available to Galway County Council to date in 1998; and if an application has been made by Galway County Council for coastal protection work at the road at Renville, Oranmore between the boat club and Renville Point, County Galway. [14154/98]

Grant aid has been made available for three of the four priority coast protection projects submitted by Galway County Council for consideration under the Operational Programme for Environmental Services 1994-1999. Given the very limited resources available for coast protection under the Operational Programme, I regret it is unlikely to be possible to provide further grant aid to Galway County Council this year.

The road at Renville, Oranmore, was not among the coast protection proposals submitted to my Department by Galway County Council.
