Vol. 492 No. 7

Written Answers. - Health and Safety Directive.

Michael Finucane

Question:

111 Mr. Finucane asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the reason she has failed to implement the EEC Directive of 23 November 1993 in relation to the minimum health and safety requirements for work on board fishing vessels and the reason she failed to inform the Commission thereof; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the period for compliance expired on 23 November 1995; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15091/98]

Council Directive 93/103/EC concerning the minimum safety and health requirements for work on board fishing vessels has not yet been transposed into Irish law. Draft regulations are at present with the office of the parliamentary draftsman. I hope to have these regulations finalised shortly and transposed into Irish law. The European Commission has been informed of the position.
