Vol. 492 No. 7

Written Answers. - Representations to Australian Government.

Michael Ring

Question:

131 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the progress, if any, he has made with the Australian authorities to ensure that a deportation decision for a person (details supplied) is overturned. [14810/98]

At my request, our Ambassador in Canberra has made repeated and strong representations on behalf of the person concerned with the Australian authorities, in particular on humanitarian grounds. While the case involves complex provisions of Australian immigration law, the Ambassador is pursuing it very actively, and will continue to do so in the hope of achieving a satisfactory outcome.
