Vol. 492 No. 7

Written Answers. - Milk Testing.

Michael Ring

Question:

157 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the details of stricter cross-checking of milk testing at creameries. [14885/98]

Under the provisions of the European Communities (Milk Quota) Regulations (S. I. No. 266 of 1995) milk purchasers are required to determine the fat content of milk delivered by producers. The purchaser is required to notify each producer of the results of the fat tests and to retain and preserve the records of these tests in the manner laid down.

The procedures for testing and recording of the butterfat content of milk at creameries-dairies are monitored by my Department on an ongoing basis as part of its inspection and control function as the competent authority under the EU quota regime. The monitoring procedures are constantly kept under review by my Department.
