Vol. 492 No. 7

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business. I propose to deal with a number of matters arising under Standing Order No. 31. I will deal with these matters separately and will call on Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I wish to move the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss a specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent consideration, namely the failure of the Government to provide funding to assist in the preparation of a legal case being taken by a group of Louth residents against BNFL's installation at Sellafield.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by Standing Order 31. Therefore I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

I move, under Standing Order 31, that the House should clarify with the Minister for Finance and his Department whether the Minister has or has not made a decision relative to the TSB Bank and whether he has or has not sanctioned a merger with the ACC in view of the discrepancy between his reply to the Adjournment Debate on Thursday last and the report carried in last Friday's Irish Independent.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by Standing Order 31. Therefore I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
