Vol. 492 No. 7

Written Answers. - Tax Reliefs.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

188 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance the estimated annual cost of eliminating the tax claw-back in child dependant allowances paid to widows who are in receipt of contributory widow's pension as highlighted in the Supreme Court decision of 13 May 1998. [15108/98]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the cost of the change mentioned in the question, including the consequential extension of the measures to child dependant allowances associated with other social welfare payments, is estimated to be of the order of £3.5 million in a full year.
