Vol. 492 No. 7

Written Answers. - Ordnance Survey Office.

Noel Ahern

Question:

194 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance the change in status, if any, there will be of staff being transferred out of the Department of Defence Ordnance Survey office into civilian positions; the changes, if any, there will be in relation to pensions, salaries and conditions of employment; and the plans and future directional changes, if any, for the new Ordnance Survey. [15227/98]

Army personnel currently serving with the Ordnance Survey will be eligible to compete in a confined competition for posts of cartographer and those successful and taking up appointment will become civil servants with the same conditions and terms of employment as other civil servants serving in the Ordnance Survey in that grade.

I have recently received the report of the interim board of the Ordnance Survey which was established to advise on the arrangements which are required to effect the transformation of the Ordnance Survey into a separate agency and I am currently considering its recommendations in relation to the plans and future directional changes of the Ordnance Survey.
