251 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the standards and guidelines, if any, which exist to regulate the operation of fun fairs; and if he will meet with the Association of Irish Showmens Guild Limited to discuss the situation. [15173/98]
There are no national safety standards or guidelines for the regulation and control of fun fairs.
The situation is clearly unsatisfactory and I have asked my Department to examine what controls would be appropriate, taking account of the respective powers of local authorities and the Health and Safety Authority, when proposals are being developed.
Consultation with interest groups will be carried out where appropriate.
