Vol. 492 No. 7

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Question:

262 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when an oral hearing for a person (details supplied) will be rescheduled. [14913/98]

The person concerned, who is currently in receipt of deserted wife's benefit, applied for disability allowance on 9 January 1998. She was examined by a medical assessor of the Department who was of the view that she did not satisfy the medical criteria for receipt of disability allowance.

She appealed this decision and arrangements were made to have her re-examined by a different medical assessor who was also of the opinion that she did not satisfy the criteria for receipt of disability allowance.

She was asked by the appeals officer to set out the complete and up to date grounds of her appeal and to furnish any further medical evidence she wished to submit in support of her appeal. Following consideration of her reply the appeals officer is of the opinion that an oral hearing is necessary. This will be arranged as soon as possible.
