Vol. 492 No. 7

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

John Gormley

Question:

318 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will have an investigation made into the treatment of a person (details supplied) by members of the Garda Síochána; if a number of gardaí from Sundrive Road station, Crumlin, Dublin 12, searched this person's house on 1 May 1998 on foot of a search warrant issued in respect of a different address and removed personal effects from the house on that occasion, if the person concerned subsequently appeared in court; and, if so, the charges brought against him; if he will give an assurance that the person will suffer no further mistreatment as a consequence of having raised this issue with Deputy Gormley and with other Deputies; and if he will make a statement on the standards of treatment he feels would be appropriate in the case of persons in these circumstances. [15249/98]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that this matter is currently before the courts and is therefore sub judice. In the circumstances, it would not be appropriate for me to comment on the matter.
