Vol. 492 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

325 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if favourable consideration will be given to the allocation of national lottery funding to a pipe band (details supplied) in county Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15093/98]

Earlier this year, I announced that my Department was initiating a comprehensive review of the operation of the sports capital programme. I also announced that no further applications would be accepted by my Department, under the existing sports capital programme, after 11 February 1998.

An application for funding under the programme was received from Lord Edward's Own Narraghmore Pipe Band on 9 June 1998. As this was after the closing date for receipt of applications under the programme, it was not considered in the context of the 1998 round of grant allocations.

All funds under the programme have now been committed to projects around the country and no further applications are being invited until the review is completed and I am in a position to publicise details of the new schemes.
