Written Answers. - Postgraduate Students.

Noel Ahern

377 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of postgraduate university degrees currently being undertaken; the estimated numbers involved who are currently in employment. [15229/98]

There are 6,743 students enrolled in full-time postgraduate degree programmes in the university sector in the 1997-98 academic year. In addition there are 2,396 students enrolled in part-time postgraduate degree programmes. There are no data available on the numbers currently in employment. However, the 1995 report of the Steering Committee on the Future Development of Higher Education referred to the profile of part-time students and noted that almost 90 per cent were in employment.
