78 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Education and Science when the leaving certificate was issued to the relevant schools or pupils for each of the years from 1994 to 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15020/98]
The 1994 leaving certificates were issued on a phased basis during January 1995 to the relevant schools for distribution to the candidates concerned.
The 1995 certificates were issued to schools on 22 January 1996.
The 1996 certificates were issued to schools on 1, 2 and 3 December 1996.
It is proposed to issue the 1997 certificates this autumn. It has not been possible to issue the certificates concerned any earlier due to the knock-on impact of industrial action which occurred earlier this year in my Department.
