Science teachers have a very vibrant association, the Irish Science Teachers' Association. I have met the association recently in relation to a number of matters. The inspectorate of my Department meets the association on an annual basis on issues ranging from examinations to syllabus development. The association, which has about 1,000 members, holds an annual conference attended by officials from my Department.
Through these fora, I am fully aware of the issues that concern science teachers. Their concerns are also, of course, communicated to me by the unions.
