Written Answers. - Sport Horse Industry.

Paul Bradford

Question:

77 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the plans, if any, he has to further develop the Irish sport horse industry; and if he will reintroduce a suitable grant scheme to help. [15464/98]

Assistance for the development of the Irish sport horse industry is primarily channelled through the Irish Horse Board.

The following schemes are operated by my Department in co-operation with the Irish Horse Board under the Operational Programme for Agriculture, Rural Development and Forestry 1994-1999 and I will be seeking to have a similar package included in the National Development Plan 2000-2006: Quality Stallion Incentive Scheme, Quality Brood Mare Incentive Scheme, Bloodtyping Scheme, Stallion Performance Testing Scheme, Stallion Progeny Testing Programme (genetic indexing), Scheme of Assistance for Stud-Book Establishment and Development, Scheme of Assistance for the Development of Artificial Breeding Techniques, Scheme of Assistance Towards the Development of a Farriery Training Programme, Scheme of assistance to the Irish Horse Board in respect of Marketing and Promotion.
