Vol. 493 No. 1

Written Answers. - Computer Software.

Nora Owen

Question:

93 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he has satisfied himself that his Department and all agencies under his auspices are using licensed software only; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15374/98]

It is the policy of my Department to use only licensed software on the Department's mainframe and PC systems. Software acquisition and installation is co-ordinated centrally within the information systems division. Software installations on mainframe systems are strictly controlled and require special computer account privileges that are confined to specialised support staff. Software installations on PC systems are managed and audited by a central support unit.
