Vol. 493 No. 2

Written Answers. - Disability Support Service.

Michael Bell

Question:

33 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the timescale for the recommendations to Government of the establishment group for a national disability authority is on target; if it has reported to his Department; if he will provide information on the nature of the disability support service which will be established in conjunction with the authority; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15444/98]

The establishment group for the national disability authority and a disability support service held its first meeting on 18 December 1997. It has continued to meet frequently since then with a view to fulfilling its task of reporting to Government with detailed proposals for the establishment of the new authority and support service, as recommended by the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities. The group is planning to submit its report to the Government in the next few weeks and I am not in a position to comment on its content until it is submitted to Government.
