Vol. 493 No. 2

Written Answers. - Family Support Services.

Willie Penrose

Question:

111 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the progress, if any, achieved with regard to recommendations of the Commission on the Family that are within the remit of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15436/98]

The Commission on the Family was set up by the Minister for Social Welfare in October 1995 to make recommendations to the Government on proposals which would strengthen the capacity of families to carry out their functions in a changing economic and social environment. On 15 May 1998 Deputy Dermot Ahern, Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs, launched the main findings of the report. I will examine the recommendations appropriate to my Department, which include recommendations in relation to child care provision and access to speedy and effective resolution procedures for families who have recourse to family law, when the final report is published.
