Question:

125 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the total number of new jobs created in the past 12 months which have been taken up by women, men, persons under 25 and those over 25; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16321/98]

The net growth for male and female employment and the net growth in employment among those under and over 25 years old is set out in the table below.

The total new jobs in 1997 were taken up equally by men and women. Some 27 per cent of the new jobs were taken up by those under 25 years old and 73 per cent taken up by those over 25 years old.
