Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Coastal Protection.

Mary Hanafin

Question:

132 Ms Hanafin asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if his Department will provide funding for coastal protection of Hawk Cliff, Dalkey, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15601/98]

Hawk Cliff is not among the priority coast protection proposals submitted to my Department by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council for consideration under the Operational Programme for Environmental Services 1994-1999. In these circumstances, and given the extremely limited resources available for coast protection under the present operational programme, I regret that it would not be possible, in the short term, to provide grant aid for such a project to Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council should this be sought. However, in the context of developing priorities for coastal protection work, the county council will be asked for an assessment of the situation at Hawk Cliff and where it should rank in terms of priority.
