Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Inland Fisheries.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

135 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if grant aid has been made available from his Department to enable improvement works on community lakes in the Kerry area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15869/98]

Under the tourism angling measure of the Operational Programme for Tourism 1994-99 grant aid of over £500,000 has been allocated to five inland fisheries projects in County Kerry since the beginning of the programme. The projects include, instream development work, sea angling signposting and provision of angling pools.

The programme runs until the end of 1999, which means there are still opportunities for further projects to be put forward. I am particularly keen to see community groups and local enterprise working together with fisheries groups to develop tourism angling projects on the ground.
