Vol. 493 No. 3

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Broughan — the urgent need to resolve the housing crisis for lower income families in Dublin City and Fingal County; (2) Deputy Ring — the need to confirm what conditions are attached to a licence for offshore exploratory drilling companies, and if a minimum percentage of employees must be Irish to help boost the economy; (3) Deputy Hayes — the need for the Minister for Environment and Local Government to respond to a proposal to establish a national commission on housing which would investigate the current crisis in the housing market; (4) Deputy Naughten — the need to immediately provide additional funding for orthodontic services in the Western Health Board region; (5) Deputy Matt Brennan — the urgent need for a new fire station in Tubbercurry, County Sligo; (6) Deputy Lawlor — the inclusion of inoculation against hepatitis B, particularly for infants, within the current vaccination schemes, given the increasing evidence of underestimation of the true incidence of the virus; (7) Deputy Ulick Burke — the need to make resources available to the Western Health Board to alleviate the hardship caused by the 50 per cent cutback in necessary supplies to public health nurses in their work within the community; (8) Deputy Bell — the need to investigate the impact which a soil decontamination unit could have on the environs of Julianstown, County Meath, in light of the application for such a unit which has been placed by Green Sunrise Holdings Ltd., and the environmental hazards attached to this project, given its close proximity to Gormanstown military camp; (9) Deputy Gregory — the serious problems posed by the delay in implementing the bail restrictions and the negative impact this is having on the drugs crisis in Dublin; (10) Deputy Flanagan — the serious shortage of post leaving certificate places in County Laois and the need for action thereon; (11) Deputy Donal Carey — the imminent loss of the fourth assistant teacher at Kilkishen national school, County Clare, which is classified as educationally disadvantaged under Department guidelines; (12) Deputy Hanafin — the issue of restrictions on the use of jet skis and the need to introduce some safety guidelines; (13) Deputy Deenihan — the crisis facing 2,000 farmers in Kerry with quotas under 35,000 gallons because of superlevy payments; (14) Deputy Neville — the need to ensure that the proposed extension to the Salesian secondary college, Pallaskenry, County Limerick, is completed in 1998; (15) Deputy Stanton — the need to make funding available to upgrade the bus service provided by CIE to special needs pupils from the Youghal area who have to travel to special schools in Cork each day, and to ensure it is in place by the start of the next school year; (16) Deputy Kenny — the reasons behind the decision to have gardaí carry out duties as requested on 14 May and 9 June 1998 involving the replacement of a Garda communications mast with ESAT attachments at Keel, Achill, County Mayo, the reason it was necessary to have a large Garda force present and the consequences resulting from such activity.

The matters raised by Deputies Broughan, Hayes, Kenny and Stanton have been selected for discussion.
