Vol. 493 No. 3

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 31 from Deputy Sargent. I call on Deputy Sargent to state the matter of which he has given notice to me.

I ask that the business of the Dáil be adjourned to allow the Government to remedy the critical damage that has been done to the private fundraising efforts of the multi-denominational primary education sector by the failure to provide capital funding, as promised by the Minister of Education and Science, Deputy Martin, on 2 January in Galway. This is an urgent matter and is playing havoc with the voluntary fundraising of multi-denominational education.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
