Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Army Nursing Service.

Billy Kelleher

Question:

191 Mr. Kelleher asked the Minister for Defence when he will pay the army nursing service the pay increase which was upheld by the Labour Court; and the reason for the delay in implementing the decision of the Labour Court in regard to the pay awards. [16088/98]

Discussions with the Irish Nurses Organisation, which represents the Army Nursing Service, on the application to the members of the service of recommendations arising from the Labour Court arbitration hearing were completed yesterday. The recommendations of the court were not uncomplicated and covered the areas of pay and equalisation of the value of the ANS and health board pension schemes. There was no undue delay in implementing the recommendations arising from the arbitration hearing. Arrangements are being made to pay the agreed rates of pay as quickly as possible.
