Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Projects.

Seán Power

Question:

192 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Defence the long-term plans, if any, he has for the Curragh swimming pool, County Kildare; if he will consider using the proceeds from the sale of the houses in Orchard Park to carry out the necessary works that would bring the pool up to an acceptable health and safety standard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16337/98]

An examination and report of the present state of the facilities at the Curragh swimming pool was sought from engineering consultants. The report was commissioned to see what works might be necessary to bring the pool facilities into line with modern standards.

The report was recently received and is currently being examined by my Department in consultation with Army Corps of Engineers to determine what remedial action needs to be taken. Adequate provision will be made within the building and engineering subhead of my Department's Estimates to carry out any essential repairs that may be determined as necessary following the examination of the report. It is not possible at this stage to state when the proposed sale of houses in Orchard Park will be completed, but any proceeds from the sale of the houses will be treated as Appropriation-in Aid.
