Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Rural Environment Protection Scheme.

Michael Ring

Question:

199 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food whether a person who has 20 owned and 170 leased acres in his REP scheme plan, now in the third year, would be better off to submit a new REP scheme plan for 100 acres of land designated as SAC or NHA which he intends to purchase or if it would be more financially beneficial for him to submit the new land as year four of his REP scheme. [15678/98]

Under the new REPS measure which will apply in NHAs and commonages a person owning 100 acres of land designated as SAC or NHA would receive a REPS payment of £8,000. This is an increase of £3,000 on the basic REPS payment of £5,000. In order to avail of payments under the new measure existing REPS participants must submit a new five year plan which is in compliance with the terms and conditions of the scheme. It is up to REPS participants, in consultation with their planners as necessary, to assess their own positions having regard to their individual circumstances.
