Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Registration of Title.

Paul McGrath

Question:

206 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to the fact that many farmers who have purchased land from the Land Commission may have to wait up to 20 years to have registration completed; if his attention has further been drawn to the difficulty this causes for those farmers in negotiating finance for building on this land; if he will undertake to have all transactions involving the Land Commission completed within a specified timeframe; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16009/98]

Documents necessary for registration of land purchased by farmers from the Land Commission are forwarded by my Department to the Land Registry as soon as possible after the allotment of the lands concerned. However, some delays can occur during the vesting procedures arising either from external factors such as title difficulties or because of limited resources within the area of the Department concerned due to the redeployment of staff to other areas within the Department.

It is not possible to give a specific timeframe for completion of transactions involving the Land Commission for the reasons mentioned and because of the varying complexity of individual transactions.
