Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Mental Handicap Services.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

264 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make a special funding allocation to enable a person (details supplied) in County Mayo to attend the Ann Sullivan Centre which is the appropriate facility for her needs and where she can realise her potential; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15672/98]

As the Deputy will be aware, funding for services for persons with a mental handicap in County Mayo is the responsibility of the Western Health Board. Additional funding of £742,000 was allocated to the board for the development of new residential and day services in 1998. It is a matter for the board, in consultation with the regional co-ordinating committee, to identify priority needs within the region and to co-ordinate the development and delivery of services, including decisions relating to the individuals who will benefit from those services.
