Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

316 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if the scope of the remedial works scheme prevents local authorities from carrying out work on a house where the full front or back of the house does not require repairs but only a half section at the back of the house; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15706/98]

The remedial works scheme assists local authorities to carry out major essential works on a structural nature to certain groups of their rented dwellings which they could not fund from their own resources. These dwellings fall into three categories: dwellings with serious design or construction defects; dwellings constructed prior to 1 January 1940; and run down urban estates.

The planning and implementation of approved projects under the scheme is a matter for local authorities.
