Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Electoral Constituencies.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

321 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government in regard to the revised Dáil constituencies if he will give the number of households and the number of voters transferred from Dublin South Central and Dublin South to Dublin South West; and the number of votes and households transferred from Dublin South-West to Dublin Mid-West. [15974/98]

The formation of Dáil constituencies is not based on the number of registered electors but on population ascertained at the last census, which in the case of the most recent revision of constituencies was the 1996 census. The number of households and electors transferring to or from a constituency as a result of the revised constituencies specified in the Electoral (Amendment) (No. 2) Act, 1998 are not available in my Department.

However, the numbers of persons transferring from the constituencies referred to by the Deputy are as follows:

Existing Constituency

New Constituency

No. of Persons

Dublin South-Central

Dublin South-West

7,690

Dublin South

Dublin South-West

5,107

Dublin South-West

Dublin Mid-West

33,249
