Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Refugee Status.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

387 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the application for refugee status will be resolved and finally dealt with for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that he is suffering from a severe health condition which requires that he stays in Ireland for the foreseeable future in order for it to be properly treated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15820/98]

It is not the practice to comment publicly on individual applications for refugee status having regard to the fact that applications by their nature are made in confidence with an expectation by the applicant that such confidence will be preserved. However, I can confirm that the applicant was interviewed on 11 May 1998 and a decision has been taken on his application. I will inform the Deputy of the decision when I am satisfied that the applicant has received formal notification of same.
