Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Naturalisation Applications.

Andrew Boylan

Question:

415 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason naturalisation has not been granted to persons (details supplied) in County Cavan in view of the fact that their application is with his Department for some considerable time. [16326/98]

Applications for certificates of naturalisation from the persons referred to by the Deputy were submitted to this Department in April 1995. The then Minister considered both applications under the provisions of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Acts 1956 and 1986 and decided in December 1995 not to grant certificates of naturalisation. The persons referred to were informed in writing of this decision on 21 December 1995.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

416 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a certificate of naturalisation will issue to a person (details supplied) in County Cork in view of the fact that her mother was married to an Irish citizen in 1993, the person did her leaving certificate in her local school and is studying for a BSc degree and her brother received his certificate of naturalisation in April 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16327/98]

The person referred to by the Deputy made a new application for a certificate of naturalisation in early March 1998. Some standard inquiries relating to the application are currently being carried out and when these are completed, the application will be submitted to me for a decision.

As soon as full consideration has been given to this case, I will advise both the applicant and the Deputy of my decision.
