Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Bernard Allen

Question:

452 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received the reports of psychological tests regarding pupils attending Sunday's Well Girls' national school, Strawberry Hill, Cork; and, if so, if he will make an immediate favourable decision on the allocation of a resource teacher for the school. [16023/98]

John Bruton

Question:

455 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide a resource teacher to Kilbride national school, Clonee, County Meath, in view of the fact that the school has ten children who need special education. [16026/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 452 and 455 together.

I am aware of the cases made by the schools in question for the appointment of resource teachers.

I am reviewing provision across the special needs area, including the resource teacher area, to ensure all available resources are deployed as effectively as possible. I hope to be in a position to make additional resource teacher posts available to primary schools for the forthcoming school year. I expect to be in a position to make an announcement on the precise number of posts involved in the near future.

The needs of the schools to which the Deputies refer will be considered in the context of any additional resource teacher allocations which may be undertaken.
