Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

460 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the proposals, if any, he has to appoint two additional assistant teachers in Duleek boys and girls national school, County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16031/98]

The staffing of a national school is determined by the enrolment at the school at 30 September of the previous school year.

The enrolment at Duleek boys school in September 1997 was 166 pupils and the enrolment at Duleek girls school was 165. The enrolment figure required for the appointment of a sixth assistant teacher is 190. Accordingly, neither school qualifies for an additional teacher. Unfortunately, therefore, I cannot approve the appointment of two assistant teachers to these schools.
