Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Seán Haughey

Question:

467 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will ensure that a teaching post in a school (details supplied) in the inner city of Dublin is not lost and put on the panel; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16040/98]

A teaching post at the school referred to by the Deputy will be lost at the end of the current school year because the enrolment at the school declined from 162 pupils in September 1996 to 146 pupils in September 1997. The school would have required an enrolment of 155 pupils in order to retain the fifth teaching post. I would point out, however, that, in addition to the school's authorised staffing of a principal and four teachers for the 1998-9 school year, it will continue to have a remedial teacher and a concessionary teacher on account of the disadvantaged status of the school. The school will also continue to have the services of a home-school liaison teacher.
