Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Enterprise Boards.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

68 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the plans, if any, she has to restructure and expand funding for the county enterprise boards in view of their extended mission for micro-businesses following the establishment of Enterprise Ireland. [15921/98]

In the course of my reply to a related question, No. 114 on 23 June 1998, I indicated that the Government has recently established a Task Force to develop a framework, to be operational by end 1999, for an integrated approach to local government and local development, in which enterprise boards already play an important role, and that the proposed establishment of Enterprise Ireland, would not alter the functions of the enterprise boards, other than that there will be more clearly defined arrangements for micro-enterprise project transfers, between the new agency and the existing enterprise boards.

In these circumstances, the need for additional funding for enterprise boards does not arise, at this time.
