Vol. 493 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Noel Ahern

Question:

156 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position regarding plans to refurbish Garda stations in Whitehall and Santry; if a new station will be built in Ballymun; if a location has been selected and if design has commenced; the approximate timetable for these events; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16499/98]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities there are no requests from local Garda management for major refurbishment work at Whitehall and Santry Garda stations. Routine maintenance is carried out at both stations as it arises.

It is proposed to build a new Garda station on a greenfield site at Ballymun. A possible site has been identified and is being explored by the Office of Public Works. It is not possible at this time to say when work will commence on this project.

Billy Timmins

Question:

157 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if funding has been allocated to upgrade the Garda facilities (details supplied) in County Wicklow. [16547/98]

The provision of funding to upgrade the married quarters is conditional on, among other things, a suitable applicant being identified to occupy them. I have been informed by the Garda authorities that no suitable applicant has been identified to date.
