Vol. 493 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Transport.

Jim Higgins

Question:

161 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the Garda patrol car has been, or is to be, withdrawn from Carndonagh, County Donegal. [16551/98]

The detailed deployment of Garda resources to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that a marked Garda patrol vanette is allocated to Carndonagh Garda station.

I understand that this vehicle was temporarily assigned to Clonmany Garda station. The Garda authorities inform me that during this period a spare patrol car was made available and was temporarily assigned to Carndonagh as a replacement vehicle thereby ensuring that mobile patrolling continued as normal in the sub-district.

I understand from the Garda authorities that the current position is that the marked patrol vanette has been permanently returned to Carndonagh and the spare car which had been temporarily allocated to Carndonagh has been withdrawn.
