An Action Programme for the Millennium contains a commitment to give primary education a clear priority in allocating resources. In this context, the programme specifically states that one teacher schools with ten or more pupils will receive a second teacher.
In the context of considering staffing arrangements for primary schools for the 1998-99 school year, I am examining a range of options with a view to identifying the most appropriate way to fulfil the Government's commitments to one teacher schools as outlined in An Action Programme for the Millennium. I intend to make an announcement on this very shortly.

Question:192 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Education and Science the names of primary schools in County Donegal without the services of a remedial teacher. [16523/98]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 182 and 192 together.
I am currently reviewing provision across the special needs area, including the remedial area, to ensure that all available resources are deployed as effectively as possible.
In the case of remedial teachers, I have already indicated my intention to ensure that a remedial resource is available to every primary school in the country within the next two years.
As a first step in this process, I intend to allocate additional remedial teacher posts to primary schools for the forthcoming school year. I expect to be in a position to make an announcement on the precise number of posts and the schools involved in the near future. The needs of schools in County Donegal will be considered in the context of any additional remedial teacher allocations which are undertaken.
